Skate Plaza

After a day of snowboarding with the big kids, I wanted to let the little ones have a little fun.  We took advantage of Martin Luther King holiday and went to skate plaza.  They have these great little “helpers” for the little ones to learn how to skate.  I love them because I don’t have to skate around the rink while trying to hold up a 3 year old at the same time.   Miranda was so happy to FINALLY go skating.  She wants to go again for her birthday.  DSCN0021DSCN0022DSCN0024

Shylee was happy to watch all the kids go around and around.  We didn’t stay long but they had a great time.DSCN0020DSCN0023

Snowboarding!!

For Christmas we got Kaydra and Kanyon a snowboard.  It's kinda hard to share a snowboard...but we had a plan.  We got Kanyon snowboard to use this year along with his 3 free lift tickets to Lookout pass through the 5th grade "Ski Idaho" program.  It's an awesome program where they give 5th graders three free passes to all the resorts in Idaho for the year.  We bought Kaydra a "Learn to Board in 3" pass from Lookout.  It's for first time boarders/skiers.  They get 3 rentals, 3 lessons, and 3 lift tickets.  If they complete all three, they get a season pass for the rest of the year.  Pretty cool.  We tried it out over Christmas break for the first time.

Then I took the kids again over the holiday weekend.  Kaydra sprained her left wrist the first time, and her right wrist the second time.  Crazy girl!  We had a great time though and I remembered why it is not fun to get stuck in DEEP powder on a snowboard.  It is really hard to jump when your board is under 2 feet of snow.  We all survived and hope to go again if the weather cooperates.

15 Months

Little Shylee is growing up.

She is such a good baby.  Unfortunately she has been sick with different colds almost all winter.  It seems we just start getting her to feel better and she starts with a runny nose or a cough again.  She is a trouper though and remains pretty happy through most of it.  I still haven’t taken her in to get her 12 month shots yet.  She had the appointment, but she was sick so we didn’t give her the shots.  They said to just bring her in any time she felt better.  I have thought I would take her in a couple times, but then she starts sniffling again.  Poor thing.  She was up one evening screaming and smacking her ear.  I tried everything to help her calm down.  I even took her for a drive in the car but she still was crying.  So then I took her in to the urgent care.  She was feisty and wouldn’t let the doctor get a very good look in her ear but he thought one looked a little red.  He gave us some antibiotics.  I gave her one dose and a little Motrin.  She went to sleep that night and woke up the next morning with no problems at all!!  She never had a fever.  Needless to say, I didn’t give her any more antibiotic.  No drug works that fast, and I don’t want her to get them if she doesn’t need them.  I am glad she is feeling better, but it was kinda strange.

She is starting to try to feed herself.  Sometimes she is better at it then others.

She loves yogurt as you can tell.  She is a funny girl.  She is still taking a bottle, but I hope to end that soon.  She is still waking up in the night, ususally once or twice.  We have a plan to switch her and Kanyon rooms as soon as she is sleeping better.  He is hoping that happens really quickly!  Right now, Miranda and Timber have to walk through his room to get to theirs.  Not ideal for a 10 year old boy!  We are working on it!
This little girl is such a joy to have in our home.  We love every bit of her and feel so grateful she is ours!

Kanyon’s First Elk–as told by Leonard

This past Tuesday my 10 year old son and I were able to spend a day in the woods looking for cow elk for him to put his tag on. He was lucky enough to have drawn a second chance tag on a late season cow hunt in a unit south of our house. Fresh snow had fallen on Sunday and the thermometer when we left the house Tuesday morning read 2 degrees. We had blue bird skies with no wind which made for a beautiful but chilly day in the woods.

Elk were spotted and a brief stalk was made to just under 160 yards. My son lay prone across my pack and made a great double lung shot with his 243 on this fat cow!

We spent the next couple of hours reveling in our good fortune, breaking her down and getting her back to the truck which led to this!
